One of the nice things about CALL OF DUTY is the smart AI of the opponents.
They don't just stand their willy-nilly, they duck, peek out, fire, and if
they spot you and you duck behind a window sill or door frame or box,
whatever, they will sneak up and lob a grenade and run back for cover. Also
they will split their fire power. While the bulk of their team will maintain
suppressing fire, some will break off to attack you.

Also, from reading other reports, another nice part is that your OWN
teammates can take care of themselves. They can maintain suppressing fire,
and sometimes, if you're not careful, will do your job for you, shooting the
Nazis before you get a chance too. Sometimes they will get in your line of
fire, but that's usually so they can get a better shot themselves.
Apparently in some other team games, your teammates will not only get in
your line of fire, but then not shoot or block your objective. Oh and your
teammates have the goodly sense to run from grenades and major incoming
fire.

What other games are there with good AI--for both opponents and for your own
team (in games with teams)?

Intelligently scripted but not true intelligent-agent AI.
Replay from a save point and repeat the player actions;
enemies appear in the same places, do the same thing.
No replay-value whatsoever even at highest level.

However, if you enjoyed it, that's all which really matters.

The upcoming game from Ubi Soft, FAR CRY, seems to have plans to really amp
up the AI.
